Global Risk Report 2024

The World Economic Forum's Global Risks 2024 report warns that geopolitical, economic, and climate challenges threaten global stability over the next two years and into the next decade, stressing that the world is entering a complex transition period characterized by uncertainty and accelerating structural shifts.

In its 19th edition, the report noted that the world has not yet recovered from a series of prolonged shocks, while the international system is becoming increasingly fragile as a result of escalating armed conflicts, the spread of misinformation, and persistent livelihood pressures. It also warned that climate change is outpacing the adaptive capacity of nations, threatening irreversible environmental tipping points.

The report is based on data collected from more than 1,500 global leaders and experts in politics, economics, and civil society, and outlines potential risks in two and ten years, such as rising crime waves, declining economic growth, challenges associated with artificial intelligence, and the prospects of living in a world that warms by 3 degrees Celsius.

The report also points to the erosion of trust in institutions and the decline of global coordination, warning that dealing with these cross-border risks requires more coordinated governance and the courage to make collective strategic decisions.
