A report published by ANF English on February 5, 2025, revealed that Turkey has established military camps in Syria to train Islamic State (IS) members coming from Iraq, especially from the areas of Tal Afar and Mosul.
According to the report, these trainings are supervised by a commander named "Ashraf Antaki" and are aimed at targeting Kurds. These camps are located near Azaz and Idlib, where about 1,200 fighters, mostly from Iraq, are trained before being sent to various areas in Syria and Iraq.
These camps include locations such as Bab al-Salam camp near Aleppo, Barkhudan camp in the Marea area near Azaz, and other locations in Idlib.
According to a private source, the Turkish state is seeking to preserve ISIS members who have been defeated in Shengal, Makhmour and other parts of Iraq.
Dozens of camps have been set up near Azaz and Idlib, where ISIS operatives are trained alongside Iraqi and Syrian refugees. From these camps, militants are sent to various areas in Syria and Iraq. It is estimated that around 1,200 ISIS fighters, mostly from Tal Afar and Mosul, have received training there.
The source noted that these camps, which were set up in the Murshid Hajar area near Jarablus and on the border with Idlib province, have been operating for several months.
The majority of trainees at these camps, known as Qara Kobri, hail from Iraq, he said, particularly from Mosul, Salaheddine and al-Sharqat.
The source added that these militants are trained by Turkish commandos and then sent to different areas under the control of Turkish forces.
These militants are targeting areas such as Manbij, Afrin, Kobane and other areas in northeastern Syria.
