Climate Risk for Children Report 2026
writer: United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
UNICEF's Child Climate Risk Report 2026 reveals that almost all of the world's children are at least one climate risk.
And about 1.1 billion children face at least three overlapping climate hazards, 53 million children are exposed to five or more hazards, and about 4 million children to six or more hazards.
The most prominent threats include droughts, heatwaves, extreme heat, floods, tropical storms, fires, and sand and dust storms.
The repercussions are not limited to the environment; The climate crisis threatens children’s health, food, water, education and protection, and increases the risks of displacement, poverty and disease.
And UNICEF is calling for urgent action to reduce emissions, strengthen the resilience of essential services, and put children at the center of adaptation and climate action policies.
