UN: Iraq's 6% growth will push the region's economies up

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) confirmed on Monday that Iraq is a cornerstone of the region's economy, noting that achieving an annual growth rate of 6% will reflect positively on the economies of the countries of the region, and raise growth rates by about 2%.

And the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program for Arab States, Abdullah Al-Dardi, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that the program has a long partnership with Iraq, and has kept pace with the various stages it has gone through, stressing that it will continue its work in the country as long as Iraq desires.

And he added that the program will return to Iraq at the end of this year with a team of international experts, based on the visions and guidance put forward by the Iraqi presidencies, with the aim of transferring successful global experiences and supporting development paths.

Al-Dirdi said the Iraqi government determines its priorities, while the program's role is limited to supporting institution building, strengthening national capacities, combating corruption, and managing economic and social development.
