Ahmed al-Wendi, vice president of the Ghadan Foundation for Risk Management and an energy security specialist, said Iraq will remain a major player in global energy markets, given that it is one of the founding countries of OPEC, which gives it the right to demand a re-evaluation of its production capabilities and share in proportion to its actual potential and enhances its presence within the organization.
Al-Wandi said in a statement to the organization's website that strengthening Iraq's position within OPEC is not limited to demanding an increase in the production quota, but at the same time requires developing the infrastructure of the oil sector, expanding production sources, and raising operational efficiency, enabling the country to reach higher and more sustainable production levels.
And he added that dealing with this file should be based on a long-term strategy, away from emotional decisions or immediate treatments, pointing out that careful planning is the way to strengthen the negotiating position of Iraq within OPEC and consolidate its role as an influential force in the global energy market in the long term.
