SOMO Director: Iraq seeks to be a center of radiation in global energy issues
The Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) Director General Ali Nizar al-Shattari said that the Baghdad International Energy Forum comes at an ideal time, as most countries in the world seek to achieve energy security and ensure sustainable supplies.
As the second largest producer in OPEC and a major source of multiple types of energy from crude oil to gas, Iraq should be a center for intellectual radiation and exchange of ideas, data and visions in this field, Al-Shattari said, noting that the forum also aims to bring together views between conventional and renewable energy and research the impact of alternatives on producing countries such as Iraq.
He added that one of Iraq's most important goals, along with what should concern world leaders, is to ensure that everyone in the world has access to energy at fair and optimal prices that can boost consumption, support the growth of industries and increase wealth.
He pointed out that oil and gas have been the basis for the wealth and major industrial transformations that the world has witnessed over the past centuries until today, stressing that Iraq and OPEC and its allies have a responsibility to provide this energy at balanced prices that encourage investment and industry and support global economic growth.
He concluded by emphasizing that through this forum, Iraq looks forward to playing a pivotal role in shaping the future visions of the energy sector and promoting cooperation between producers and consumers.
