OPEC Secretary General: The Baghdad International Forum is a strategic platform for global energy

The Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham Faisal Rashid Al-Ghais, said that holding the first Baghdad International Energy Forum is a strategic milestone for the global oil industry and strengthens Iraq's position as a major hub in the energy sector at the regional and international levels.

"OPEC's participation in this international event reflects the keenness of the organization and its member states to consolidate cooperation and joint coordination in the oil sector and all energy sources," Al-Ghais said in a letter addressed to the organizers of the forum and published on the Ghadan Foundation for Risk Management website, noting that Iraq, as one of OPEC's founding countries, plays a pivotal role in the stability and balance of global energy markets.

He added that the forum is an important opportunity to attract specialists, investors and international partners to develop capabilities and strengthen Iraq's energy industry, noting that the success of this event will make Baghdad a permanent station for strategic dialogues and agreements in the energy sector.

The OPEC Secretary General concluded his speech by stressing that OPEC, on behalf of the Organization and its Member States, wishes Iraq success in organizing the Forum, expressing his hope that this event will become a global tradition to be held continuously on Iraqi soil.

The Baghdad International Energy Forum will kick off on September 6-7, 2025 at the Al-Rashid Hotel in the capital Baghdad under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shi'a Al-Sudani. The forum is organized by Ghadan Risk Management in partnership with the Ministry of Oil and the Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) with the participation of energy ministers and major energy companies in addition to experts in this field from inside and outside Iraq.
